We are designing a dedicated space to support individuals in emotionally resetting after the loss of a loved one. This space aims to help people embrace sorrow while also inspiring an appreciation for life through immersion in a peaceful, relaxing, and inspiring natural environment.
The death of loved ones often revolve around fear and avoidance, because we fear forgetting them, fear the interruption of familiar things, and fear the colors in our memories fading away.
01
Problem Statements
Environmentally unfriendly funeral rites
During funerals, people use a large amount of decorations, which are disposable.
Unattractive and impersonal
Lacking a quiet space for post-funeral reflection, too commercial and busy.
Grief leads to fading memories
A desire not to remain sad, and a search for a safe place to express emotions.
02
Building Location
The Sunken City, San Pedro
Erosion protection
The concept of design echoes with the coastline erosion, transition, and change. The site's natural transformation mirrors the emotional journey of visitors.
Convenient Distance
1 hour away from the bustling center of LA, the site offers a serene & peaceful escape for locals seeking solace.
Ocean Serenity
Breathtaking, unpolluted ocean view, the site allows visitors to connect with nature & find tranquility while contemplating the memories of their loved ones.
Community Harmony
The local community is known for its serenity and warmth, providing a welcoming atmosphere for visitors seeking emotional support and a peaceful environment.

Design Concept
Death is not the end. We can reminisce about stories of times we played together and interact within those memories.
User Journey

"That was great"

Interaction Experience
Online APP
You can use an online app for reservations, in-park navigation, recording each interaction experience, and more. This helps you complete the entire experience more efficiently and effortlessly.
Emotional Landscape
Users craft a personal emotional space using local materials in a soothing environment. A screen guides them through their emotions with visuals, and the experience is transformed into a sound-animation in an app, capturing their emotional journey.
Sharing Stories
Sharing your own story with others is also a way to alleviate emotions. At the same time, reading others' stories can provide inspiration and encouragement.
07
Models
By using laser cutting and resin 3D printing to create the main structure of the building. Cherry wood is processed into terrain using CNC machines. Then, branches and dyes are used to make the seascape.
